AlmaTerra is both a word and a concept created by geologist, soil scientist and former Washington State University Professor Alan Busacca. The ideas of terroir and love of the earth inform the process of creating their wines from soil to bottle, and – consequently – the brand name and imagery as well.

The logo created by wine label designer Sara Nelson Design for AlmaTerra is meant to simultaneously reflect both the rocky volcanic soils of the Pacific Northwest and the beauty of our home planet. The design of these labels tie those themes to the beautifully dramatic Columbia Gorge AVA.
