Sara and her team develop logos, branding, packaging and collateral materials for the wine and beverage, professional recruiting and healthcare industries, among others. Her work has received many prestigious awards, including the People’s Choice Award at the WBMPack Expo, the American Package Design Awards, American Graphic Design Awards, SF Chronicle Wine Competition and Lone Star International Wine Competition.
The first decade of Sara’s design career was in corporate America. When she tired of blue, gray and safe (November, 1996), she started Sara Nelson Design to explore the other 16.7 million colors, half-million fonts and uncounted textures for packaging, signage and everything else that can be printed, painted, screened or seen.
A particular personal passion that carries into Sara’s professional life is color psychology. Study with Pantone’s Color Futurist Lee Eismann led her to become involved in the Color Marketing Group’s annual color forecasting process, in which she will take an active part again this year.
At Sara Nelson Design, Sara’s ability to understand and clarify a client’s needs and goals helps create strong, memorable identities and stunning brand imagery. She then works closely with the rest of the team to communicate highly targeted messages to the correct audiences.
Kevin manages the business end of Sara Nelson Design and tackles technical challenges with computers and websites as needed. A twenty-two year veteran news reporter/anchor, he has learned to collect, file, sort, prioritize and reduce the data available to essentials, then construct a brief, coherent story. That has helped many of our clients identify and articulate their identity and message succinctly and powerfully.
Out of the office Kevin enjoys ham radio, history, photography, kids, grandkids and his wife, Sara Nelson. A couple of years back he resurrected another hobby: higher education. He is back in school yet again, adding another decade of life to the transcripts: teens, twenties, thirties, forties, fifties and now sixties. He did finally organize all of the classes from random subjects over the years into a degree and graduated as a proud WSU Cougar.
Herb has been with Sara Nelson Design longer than anyone except Sara! He joined the company 22 years ago as a designer and illustrator. In addition to his work here Herb is a sought-after illustrator of children’s books and building-scale murals.
Herb enjoys a wide range of music, from classical through classic and contemporary rock. He and his family can be found at fantasy conventions around the Northwest. Or will be, once such things are being done in-person again.
Ashley has more than ten years of experience as a technical consultant performing a wide range of work including web, mobile and desktop applications programming, graphic design for print and online media, and business analysis. She has worked for Canon, Mattel, Children’s Place, IBM, Freddy’s Frozen Custard, Tommy Hilfiger, among others.
Ashley joined Sara Nelson Design in early 2020, about the time that she also transitioned to a new “side gig” as a teacher. Outside of work, Ashley she enjoys time with her husband and two dogs, binge-watching Doctor Who and woodworking.
Audrey began designing in Middle School and kept right on through to college (BFA in Fine Arts, Design emphasis, University of Idaho) and beyond. She has worked in commercial printing, label design and winery tasting room customer service in Washington’s Yakima Valley. She can cuddle up to a roaring fire with a Pantone book like it’s a novel and is fascinated by color theory.
