People Don’t Buy Products They Don’t Understand

Younger consumers look for products to fit fast-paced, casual lifestyles—especially when it comes to wine.

Traditional wine brands can feel intimidating. Complex, difficult-to-pronounce names, regions and pairing rules deter those who are unfamiliar with the jargon.

We recently project packaging for a Grab & Go brand for a convenience store chain. It required a fresh, approachable spin to wine branding.

Why “Grab & Go” Works

We wanted to remove the intimidation factor. Simplifying wine names to “Cab”, “Chard”, and “Red” was a start. Pairing them with icons of everyday favorite foods like fried chicken, pizza and spaghetti was another step. We tried to make it easy for anyone to select the right wine.

Bright Colors, Big Impact

How to make the wines stand out in a visually cluttered c-store environment? That required bright, eye-catching colors and bold brushstroke-style typography. A casual design invites consumers to engage with the product without stepping into a world they don’t understand.

Accessible Formats for Every Occasion

Grab & Go wines are available in 12 oz cans, and 1.5L and 3L bag-in-a-box formats—ideal for tailgating, camping, or a quick dinner on a busy night. These are designed for easy transport and convenience to ensure that wine is as easy to enjoy as a beer or soda. It’s environmentally responsible too!

Simplifying Wine Without Losing Quality

The core idea behind this brand is to simplify the wine selection process, not lose the perception of it being a quality product.

With the Grab & Go brand, consumers can enjoy good wine without needing to navigate complex terminology. No more high-brow food pairings typically associated with high-end wine culture! It’s all about making wine enjoyable, no matter where or when you’re drinking it.

We are very proud of how Grab & Go embodies a no-fuss, no-frills approach to wine, making it perfect for the convenience store setting and for a new generation of wine drinkers who want to experience wine on their terms!

Breaking Down Barriers, Building Brands

The Grab & Go project shows that great design isn’t just about looking good—it’s about solving real problems. When you strip away the pretense and focus on what consumers actually need, you create brands that connect.

Sometimes the most sophisticated strategy is the simplest one: meet people where they are, speak their language, and make their lives a little easier. That’s how you turn intimidation into invitation, and browsers into buyers.
